Akinola Sennon Full Bio
Akinola Sennon is a multi-talented musician. He plays the cuatro, guitar, piano and steelpan, composes and arranges pan music, and is the executive/musical director of Deltones Institute of Steel Drums and Music. Sennon released a new album called Cousoumeh internationally on August 26, on Ropeadope Records, based in New Jersey, USA. The album had its Caribbean release on September 24, at the home of Siparia Deltones, located at Railway Road, Siparia, Trinidad and Tobago.
He apprenticed with both Carlton and Clive “Zanda” Alexander honing his skills in improvisation and mastering the art of kaiso jazz from these pioneers. In 2013, he recorded an album with musical legend Hugh Masekela where he assumed the role of project coordinator and steel pan soloist. In 2015, he participated in the Amsterdam Conservatorium Van Summer Jazz Workshop. Gigging in regional jazz festivals in the Caribbean and in venues in Europe and North America, Akinola Sennon is poised to take the sound of the steelpan into new directions and areas in jazz.
